About the Client

Krishnagar Public School (KPS) is a CBSE-affiliated school in Krishnagar, the district headquarters of Nadia in West Bengal, and one of the leading schools in the region. It has more than 2,500 students across two campuses, a main campus and a junior campus.

The Challenge

Morning roll calls at scale

With 2,500+ students, taking attendance by roll call in every class, every morning, took a large amount of teaching time across the school. Registers then had to be collected, compiled and entered into records by hand, which introduced delays and errors.

Two campuses, no single view

The main and junior campuses kept separate records. Management had no live, combined view of who was present across the school on a given day.

Parents left without information

Parents had no way of knowing whether their child had reached school safely or when they had left. For younger children at the junior campus this mattered most. Any gap between leaving home and reaching the classroom went unnoticed until much later.

Entry and exit not recorded

A class register shows whether a student was present, not when they arrived or left. Late arrivals, early departures and movement through the gates were not recorded at all.

The Solution

KPS deployed the scanix Campus RFID Attendance System across both campuses. Every student carries an ID card with an RFID smart card built in, carrying a unique ID linked to that student alone. scanix RFID readers are installed at the entry and exit points of both campuses.

How it works

1. Tap in. On arrival, the student taps her or his ID card on the reader at the gate. It is a tap, not a swipe, and the read completes in a fraction of a second.
2. Parent alerted. An SMS goes to the parent straight away confirming that their child has entered the campus, with the time.
3. Attendance marked automatically. The tap marks the student present on the scanix dashboard. No roll call is needed.
4. Tap out. When the student leaves, a second tap records the exit time and sends the parent another SMS.
5. Central reports. Every entry and exit across both campuses is logged separately, with its own time, and can be viewed from one admin panel.
